"Kanlungan"
The artwork is a box with a collection of objects and materials that are related to the ocean. This work is inspired by the calmness and turbulence of the sea, in connection with human emotions. The central piece of the work is a faded image of the sea, while the collection includes sand and messages in bottles which are usually found or experienced along the seaside. Upon opening the box, the audience is invited to participate by digging through the sand and unearthing small glass bottles. Some of these bottles contain poems and images on paper while the others have blank pieces for the audience to include their own imagery and words. In deep longing for sea, the work creates an experience of releasing emotions or making peace with undesirable memories, similar to contemplation, meditation or heartfelt conversations that may take place by the beach.
